Terms of use LogicFire.app

These are the rules for the timer, its Chrome extension, the weekly email and the rest of LogicFire.app. The short version takes under a minute, and all of it about six.

The short version

The full terms below are what apply.

01

Who we are

LogicFire.app is run by an independent Australian developer as a sole trader, based in New South Wales. In these terms, that business is “we” and “us”.

02

Not medical advice

The timer is a focus tool, not a health service. Nothing on the site or in the weekly email is medical advice, a diagnosis or treatment, for ADHD or anything else. For your health, talk to a GP or another health professional.

Alerts can be late. Sounds, notifications and reminders can arrive late or not at all. Please don’t rely on them where a missed one could cause harm, such as taking medicine.

03

Who can have an account

You don’t need an account to use the timer. To have one, you need to be 13 or older. Under 18, you also need a parent’s, guardian’s or school’s permission. The site doesn’t ask your age.

If you think a child under 13 has an account, or you want your child’s account closed, write to privacy@logicfire.app.

04

Your account

  • Keep your passkey, email inbox and recovery codes safe: they open your account.
  • One person per account, with your own email address if you add one. Make an account for someone else only with their OK.
  • Keep your own copy of anything that matters: Settings → Your data → Export JSON. You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account.
05

Using the site fairly

Using the timer a lot, or with a whole class, is normal use. Please don’t:

  • copy the site in bulk, or run bots or scripts against it
  • attack, scan or overload the site, or get around its security or limits
  • make extra accounts to get more of something (separate ones for study and work are fine)
  • click ads just to help the site, or ask others to: it breaks Google’s rules
  • get in the way of others, or pretend to be someone else.

Search engines, web archives, link previews, our Chrome extension and ad blockers are fine. So are tools that help you read, such as screen readers.

The site may quietly limit an address that sends attacks, but never anyone signed in. Found a security problem? Please tell privacy@logicfire.app rather than testing further.

06

Names and group names

People in your groups see your handle and display name, and an invite link shows the group’s name. So keep names friendly. A name can’t:

  • be offensive, hateful, discriminatory, bullying or threatening
  • be sexual or violent, or include swear words
  • pretend to be someone else, LogicFire.app or someone who runs it.

If we reasonably think a name breaks these rules, we may replace it with a plain one. If it was your own name, we’ll ask you to choose another. Nothing else on your account changes. Think we got it wrong? Tell us through Feedback.

07

Your content stays yours

What you put in stays yours: your tasks, runs, notes, names and feedback.

We use it only to run the site. You give us permission (a licence), free of charge, to store, use and show it, only as running the site needs and the privacy page describes.

That permission ends when that content, or your account, is deleted. Copies such as backups, and feedback sent without your handle, go when the privacy page says. A group’s name stays with the group.

We may use ideas from your feedback, without paying for them.

08

Our work: sharing and copying

The site, its code and design, the essays, the weekly email and our name and logo are ours. A few parts, such as a photo and the fonts, belong to others.

You’re welcome to:

  • use the site for study, class or work, and show the timer on a projector, a stream or a video
  • link to any page, or quote a little with a link back
  • print an essay for yourself or your own class, free and with its link.

Please don’t:

  • copy the app’s code, words or pictures for your own version, or a look close enough to be mistaken for ours
  • republish an essay or the weekly email, whole or in large part, even with a link.

Ideas aren’t owned: you can build a similar timer of your own.

09

Privacy and ads

The privacy page says what the site keeps, for how long and who sees it. It also explains Google’s ads, which help keep the timer free, and your choices about them. Nothing about you is sold, and agreeing to these terms signs you up for nothing else.

10

When the site changes

We may add, change or remove features, and the site may sometimes be down. Before we remove anything that holds your data, we’ll let you export it.

If the site closes. If we ever decide to close it, account holders get at least 30 days’ notice. We’ll say so on the timer, and by email if your account has one.

If something outside our control prevents 30 days’ notice, we’ll tell you as soon as we can. Accounts and their data are then deleted.

If someone else takes over. These terms and the privacy page’s promises go with the site. You get the same notice, so you can export your data and leave first if you’d rather.

11

If an account breaks the rules

If we reasonably believe an account has broken these terms, we may:

  • restrict what it can do, such as taking it out of a group
  • suspend it for a time
  • close it.

We’ll tell you first, by email or on the timer, and give you a fair chance to put things right. Closing deletes the account, so you’ll get at least 14 days to export first.

Unless it’s urgent. Some things can’t wait:

  • an attack on the site
  • harm to other people
  • an account that belongs to a child under 13.

Then we may act at once and tell you after. We’ll send the account’s data first where we safely can.

Think we got it wrong? Write to privacy@logicfire.app and we’ll look again.

12

What we can and can’t promise

Your rights come first. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, and any other right the law says can’t be taken away, always apply. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes them.

Apart from those rights, the timer is free and offered as it is. We build it with care, but can’t promise it will always be available or accurate, or suit every need.

As far as the law allows, we aren’t responsible for:

  • loss we couldn’t reasonably have expected
  • loss from something outside our reasonable control, such as a widespread internet or power outage
  • other websites we link to, or the ads Google picks to show.
13

When these terms change

When these terms change, we’ll say what changed at the top of this page and on What’s new. We’ll ask account holders to agree.

You don’t have to agree straight away. A new version applies to your account only once you agree. Until then, the version you last agreed to still applies, and making or joining a group may wait until you do.

When there are earlier versions, they’re linked at the end of this page. Without an account, please follow the version here.

14

If we disagree, and the law

Talk to us first, if you like. Write to privacy@logicfire.app and we’ll try to sort it out. You can also go straight to a consumer agency, such as NSW Fair Trading, or to a court or tribunal.

New South Wales law applies to these terms. If you live elsewhere, you keep the protections your own law won’t let you lose. If part of these terms can’t apply, the rest still does.
